Humanis

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions readers most often send us about art, craft and AI, answered plainly and without jargon.

  1. 1

who writes the essays on this site

Our essays are written by a small group of named critics, working artists and one arts-and-technology editor based in Glasgow. Each byline includes a short line on who the writer is and why they're covering that topic. We don't publish anonymous or AI-generated pieces.

  2. 2

    how is palimpsest funded

Humanis runs on reader support and a small amount of our own savings, not sponsored content. We don't accept paid placements dressed up as independent opinion. This keeps what we publish free to read without a client looking over our shoulder.

  3. 3

how do i suggest a topic for an article

You can send a topic through our contact page with a line on why it matters to you. A real editor reads every pitch and replies if it's something we can realistically cover. We can't promise to run every idea, but we do read them all.

  4. 4

how often are new essays published

We publish on a weekly schedule, usually one long essay and a shorter note. If you subscribe to the newsletter, new pieces land in your inbox the same day they go live on the site.

  5. 5

how do i get the weekly newsletter

There's a simple sign-up form on the site where you leave your email address, nothing else is required. You'll get one email a week with the latest essay and any notes from the editors.

  6. 6

what happens if an article has a mistake

Readers can flag an error within 30 days of publication through our contact page. We check it, correct the piece on the page, and note that a correction was made. We don't quietly edit things without saying so.
